Partenza da Villa Santina, scaldiamo i muscoli nei 10 km. in leggera salita per giungere ad Ovaro dove inizia lo Zoncolan. La salita dello Zoncolan, conosciuto anche come il “Kaiser”, dal versante di Ovaro è considerato da molti la salita più dura d'Europa le pendenze sono molto regolari e i valori massimi si attestano sul 20-21%. A superb video race filmed in high definition on a beautiful sunny day. Departing from Villa Santina, we warm up our muscles in the 10 k mild uphill to reach Ovaro where we began the Zoncolan. The climb from Ovaro of the Zoncolan, also known as the "Kaiser", is considered by many to be the hardest climb in all of Europe with very sustained slopes with maximums of 20-21%.

La salita può essere suddivisa in tre parti. Due, lunghe circa 2 km, sono "normali" mentre quella centrale, di 6 km, e' senz'ombra di dubbio estrema. La prima parte si svolge in ambiente aperto attraversando il paese di Ovaro ed i prati che lo separano da Liaris. Giunti sulla piazza di questo paesino si svolta a destra e la strada spiana per circa 500 m. Subito dopo l'ultima casa inizia la seconda, durissima, solitaria, epica parte: 6 Km al 15% medio. L'inizio e' netto e brutale. Appena usciti da Liaris si staglia nettamente un drittone al 14%, il primo e tra i meno impegnativi di una lunga serie. I tornanti sono pochi e spesso molto stretti. Quando il bosco inizia a diradarsi per lasciare progressivamente posto alla prateria alpina e' segno che manca circa 1 Km alla conclusione della seconda parte che può finalmente essere considerata finita appena si e' superato il bivio segnalato per la Malga Pozzof. Da qui, ammirando un bel panorama della verdissima Val Degano, la salita diventa pedalabile e si incontra anche una lieve contropendenza lunga circa 300 m a cui segue un breve strappo al 13%. Superatolo, si arriva alla prima delle tre gallerie. Usciti dalla terza galleria si e' in vista del passo che si raggiunge superando i 4 impegnativi tornanti finali. Una volta scollinato la fatica e' ripagata da un grandioso panorama. Scendiamo adesso verso Sutrio. Procediamo quindi per Ravascletto, la strada è in salita con alcuni tratti anche impegnativi. The ascent can be divided into three parts. The first and last ~2km sections are "normal" while the middle 6 km, is extreme. The first part takes place in an open environment through the village of Ovaro in the meadows that separate it from the village of Liaris. From the square of Liaris, we turn right where the road is flat for about 500 m. Immediately after the last home we start the second, epically hard part: 6 Km with an average slope of 15%. The beginning is brutal. Just out of Liaris we find a straight at 14% section, the first and among the least demanding of a long series. The hairpin bends are few and often very close. Where the forest begins to thin out gradually replaced by alpine meadow is the sign that you are about 1 km from the end of the difficult second part and upon reaching the junction to the Malga Pozzof, you are finally there. From here you can admire the beautiful view of the green Val Degano. The climb becomes easier and even contains a slight downhill slope of about 300 m followed by a short climb up to 13%. Next, you get to the first of three rustic tunnels. After the third tunnel we can see the top, which is reached by the final four challenging switchbacks. Once on top of the climb, your fatigue is rewarded by a magnificent panorama. We descent to Sutrio then proceed to uphill Ravascletto. Back to top
