Monte Crostis e la panoramica delle vette

Da Ravasletto ci inoltriamo nella valle in direzione di Tualis dove inizia la salita di Monte Crostis. Salita epica e molto spettacolare. E' l'ascesa più bella del Friuli e in durezza e' superata solo dallo Zoncolan. Appena si esce dall'abitato di Tualis per inoltrarsi nel folto bosco di abeti, le pendenze diventano cattive. L'ascesa è costantemente molto impegnativa su una carreggiata stretta dal fondo ruvido e un po' sporco. Gli unici momenti in cui e' possibile tirare fiato sono alcuni dei 18 tornanti che separano lunghi rettilinei dalle pendenze comprese tra il 10 e il 14%. Il bosco poi inizia a diradarsi e si intravvedono le immense praterie che ricoprono la parte sommitale del massiccio del Crostis. La parte finale è la più dura per un aumento della pendenza che raggiunge una media del 12%, con punte del 18-20%. Dopo l'ultimo tornante resta da affrontare il rettilineo finale che diviene via via meno difficile finché, dopo una curva cieca, non si scollina. La strada poi prosegue a mezza costa per circa 7 Km, di cui 5 Km su sterrato: e' la cosiddetta "Panoramica delle vette". Questo fantastico anfiteatro naturale termina con la spettacolare discesa di circa 10 km. che porta a Ravascletto. Da qui ultimi facili chilometri a concludere la corsa.
From Ravasletto we enter a valley in the direction of Tualis where began the epic and spectacular ascent of Monte Crostis. This climb is the most beautiful in Friuli and its difficulty is surpassed only by the Zoncolan. After leaving the village of Tualis, descending through the dense forest of fir trees, the slopes then become nasty. The ascent is always very steep on a narrow rough track. The only times one can “catch breathers” are on some of the 18 hairpin bends that separate the long straight slopes of between 10 and 14%. Finally, the forest begins to thin out where glimpses the vast grasslands that cover the upper part of the Crostis massif can be first seen. The final part is the hardest with an average of 12% and peaks of 18-20%. After the last bend is addressed a final straight section becomes gradually less difficult until, after a blind curve, you finally reach the top. After a brief descent, the road goes up and down for about the next 7 km, 5 km of which is unpaved leading to the the so-called "Overview of the peaks." This amazing natural amphitheater is followed by the spectacular descent of about 10 km back to Ravascletto. From here the ride continues on a relaxing descent in the last kilometers to finish the race.
